<article><hdr>Airborne shot of an RF-101 Voodoo</hdr><body>
<hi style=afpcap>The reconnaissance version of the Voodoo was developed from a pair of YRF-101As which were built as prototypes to evaluate the fitment of various photographic systems in an extended nose. Production aircraft began being delivered to the 363rtd Tactical Reconnaissance Wing at Shaw AFB, South Carolina in May 1957, before units in Europe and the Far east began conversion. Production totalled 35 RF-101A models followed by 166 RF-101C versions. Sensors comprised a variety of combinations, including four KA-2 cameras for daytime photography, or three K46 and a single KA-2 for nightime work. A pair of KA-1s were fitted in the fuselasge bay. The RF-101 performed numerous reconnaissance sorties over strategic targets during the South East Asia conflict, with crews often exposing themselves to extreme danger from groundfire in order to obtain their imagery.</hi>
